Anthroposophical Pharmacy
Anthroposophical medicines may form part of an integrated programme of treatment and are prescribed by the anthroposophical doctor. They aim to stimulate the patient's own resources for self-healing and overcoming illness. The emphasis is on restoring the balance of bodily functions and strengthening the immune system.
Medicines are prepared from the raw materials of plant, mineral, animal or metal origin, using the homeopathic principle of potentization and other anthroposophical pharmaceutical processes. Whole plant extracts are also prepared, as well as more complex compound medicines.
In the U.K., Weleda (UK) manufactures and supplies anthroposophical medicines. Considerations of quality and care are all-important in the production of these very specialised medicines, from the cultivation of plants, sourcing of raw material through to the sophisticated quality control testing of the finished products. Weleda (UK) is licensed by the Department of Health to manufacture medicines, and operates to the highest standards of pharmaceutical quality. Medicines are supplied to doctors, hospitals, clinics, pharmacies and health stores and are available on National Health prescriptions.
