Curative Education and Social Therapy

Curative Education and Social Therapy is an integrated approach to care, education, guidance and life-sharing with children and adults with learning disabilities and other special needs. This work began in Germany in the early 1920s inspired by the spiritual science of Rudolf Steiner (anthroposophy). A number of initiatives had been developed in Germany and Britain by the 1940s, and there are now more than 600 centres in over 40 countries worldwide.

In Great Britain and Ireland , thousands of children and adults have benefited as students and residents in over 60 centres – intentional communities and villages, care homes, schools and training centres.Teachers, support workers and carers work together with volunteers. Work-based study and training is provided in a variety of academic and practical settings, from induction to degree level. Placements are generally funded by local authorities and government bodies.

All centres work with a multidisciplinary approach involving care, education, arts, crafts, therapies and meaningful work. They aim to provide the fullest possible experience of spiritual, cultural and social life. All are registered with and inspected by the appropriate statutory authorities.
